We were delighted to be invited to the Association of Dunkirk Little Ships’ (ADLS) Fitting out Supper .
The ADLS was formed in 1966 to keep alive the spirit of Dunkirk by perpetuating for posterity the identity of the Little Ships that went to the aid of the British Expeditionary Force during Operation Dynamo in 1940. Over 100 ships belong to the Association and there is a wealth of information about them on the Association’s website www.adls.org.uk . The Association has recently been a regular visitor to our club for its Veterans’ cruise in September each year, and the Association’s Commodore was kind enough to thank TMYC in his speech tonight.
The Fitting Out Supper was held at the famous Leander Club in Henley. The club boasts an unsurpassed record in rowing achievements. It is home to heroes such as Sir Steve Redgrave CBE, and Sir Matthew Pinsent CBE, triple gold medallist Peter Reed OBE, and double gold medallist James Cracknell OBE. It’s members have won more Olympic medals than any other single-sport Club in the world. It is celebrating its Bicentenary having been formed in 1818, way before the oldest of the Little Ships of course.
We even learnt the ceremony of the Port….
The Fitting Out supper was held in the dining room which overlooks the Henley Regatta course and Henley Bridge.
The food was good, the speeches fun and the company superb! Thank you Tom Tit!
