It was wonderful to see so many members on the weekend away in Mallorca. At its peak there were to be 34 of us. That number presented its own problems in terms of finding reasonably priced restaurants that people could walk to. So in the end we catered in house. I choose my house guests carefully, so 4 club members who were prepared to cook stayed with us, and the rest were in a local hotel.
All reports of the hotel were favourable (to our faces anyways!) so I think we chose the right one. I think their bar take did very well! And Mike C arrived in Mallorca by boat. Extra brownie points for that Mike (even if it was a sailing boat!).
Lots of members turned up early and about half of them stayed a week. The weekend itself started off with a Wine and Cheese evening at our apartment. The Rouses did a sterling job of ferrying some people back and for but most people managed the 10 minute walk, hill and all.
On Saturday we embarked on a mini tour of Palma, or as much as you can with a crowd. We caught the bus in (1,50 euros) and then spent some time in the fabulous food market before meandering down the streets of old Palma for a tapas lunch.
On Sunday morning some of us set off for a walk to Puerto Portals and most went by taxi. A very expensive venue, we managed a coffee and a good old look at the super yachts. But residents at our place had to rush back for a serious amount of cooking!
The Commodore’s Dinner was held mostly on our terrace, and although the weather had been brilliant all weekend it became quite chilly when the sun went down. So there was an amount of huddling on the sofa after the meal had finished.
On Monday we set of for El Nautico, a restaurant right in the middle of Real Club Nautico Palma (Royal boat club of Palma) where we had five courses of sharing plates, a main course and a plate of little desserts. In a fantastic setting. If only they had a car park!
